Codr Video Update 30/10/09

Written by: Paul Chater

Hello, I am Paul the author of Codr.Eu. I have been developing websites since 1999 and am rather proficient within languages such as HTML and CSS. I can do a little bit of PHP, I totally love CodeIgniter; I'm also a website designer and designed / coded this website by hand! My favourite text editor is InType because it rules. If you wish to join the so far, none-existing team at Codr then please do drop me a line to the following address: webmaster [at] paulchater.co.uk or reply me on twitter @PaulChater :)!

Just a quick update… Don’t need to say much as its in the video.

    Great news about the screencasts!

About the mac apps, I would suggest MAMP (or MAMP Pro if you want the vhosts support) which is basically an Apache, MySQL, PHP server for the Mac (equivalant of WAMP or easyPHP on Windows).

Also there is the almighty Quicksilver, although I have switched to Google Quick Search Box (qsb). Quicksilver is not developped anymore and its creator, who works for Google, created qsb.

I’m gonna list other cool apps to download too:

    - GitK – a Gitk OS X port
    - ExapanDrive – Let’s you edit files remotely in any editor (including Textmate)
    - Path Finder – Finder replacement. Finder Sucks!
    - NameChanger – Batch Rename File
Notational Velocity – Note taking tool, best application ever, no matter what the OS is.
Regexr – Air Apps, desktop version of http://www.gskinner.com/RegExr/
    - Sequel Pro – MySQL Database Management. Basically a desktop Alternative to phpMyAdmin (which I don’t like).
    - The Unarchiver – to unarchive stuff, a lot better than the default one.
    - TunnelBlick – OpenVPN client.
    - Growl – On screen notification for about all the apps.
    - Fluid – Mozilla Prism alternative, it’s native and based on Webkit. I use it to have the CodeIgniter and PHP manual as stand-alone apps, very useful!
    - AppCleaner – Uninstall apps that you don’t like. It also removes the preferences files and all the crap that get into your mac when you install new applications.
    - 1Password – Best password manager ever. Also manages secure notes, mysql account info, Amazon S3 account info, Software licences, it has a password generator, etc It’s a must!
    - ByteController – most minimalistic Itunes menu bar controller. Has Growl support.
    - iChm – Read CHM files.
    - Flip4Mac – if you want to read wma and wmv files.
    - Nambu – best free Twitter Client.
    - Transmission – Bittorent Client.
    - Firefox, Dropbox, Skype, etc

With those I think you’ll have about everything you need :P But just in case, subscribe to this blog and you’ll discover a lot of other apps: http://mac.appstorm.net/

    Hope it helped :)
